Police on the Roof for 4th Annual Free the Fuzz Event

Two Ridge Meadows RCMP officers are packing their bags and hoping for good weather for their annual fundraiser for Special Olympics B.C. Constable Adam Gander and Constable Michael McCauley from the Ridge Meadows RCMP are returning to the roof top at Save-On Foods at Valleyfair Mall in Maple Ridge for their fourth annual "Free The Fuzz" fundraiser.

The officers will be heading up to live on the roof starting at 9:00 am on Friday, September 28 and are vowing to stay on the roof until $10,000 is raised for Special Olympics BC. For the past three years local citizens and businesses have helped the officers surpass their goal. "We are just just hoping people will come and make a donation to this great charity so we aren't stuck on the roof forever", says Constable McCauley.

In the past the officers have braved wind, heavy rain, and burning sun. Constable Gander explained "We shouldn't complain but last year we didn't have enough shade and we were totally sun burnt".

The officers are hoping to have reached their goal by sometime Saturday night.

Valleyfair mall is located at 22709 Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge. And for more information contact Special Olympics B.C. at www.specialolympics.bc.ca or Constable Michael McCauley at 604-463-6251.

Each year, thousands of people gather along CPR's route to enjoy the arrival of the brightly decorated trains and watch entertainers perform a live holiday concert. At each stop, people donate money and nonperishable food and Canadian Pacific Railway presents a check for the local food bank -- cash donations are especially appreciated because every dollar collected can distribute $9 worth of food. Since the Holiday Train program began in 1999, more than $2.4 million and 1.2 million pounds of food have been collected.

Ridge Meadows RCMP Musical Ride

The RCMP Musical Ride will stop in Maple Ridge this month for two performances.

Showtimes are 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm on August 18 at the Albion Fairgrounds. The 32 riders and horses will perform a variety of intricate figures and calvary drills choreographed to music.

Although legend has it that the first Musical Ride was performed as early as 1876, the first officially recorded Musical Ride was performed in Regina under Inspector William George Matthews in1887. Over the years the popularity of the Musical Ride has grown - today it is one of the most popular Canadian symbols around the world.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased Monday to Wednesday from the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Agricultural Association office on the fairgrounds. All proceeds from the event support the Kiwanis Club and the agricultural association, which hosts Country Fest.

For more information, call 604-463-6922 or e-mail lorraine@mrpmcountryfest.com or please visit the RCMP website at www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/index-eng.htm
